Compressor/Refueller
The HMGS includes a combined Hydrogen Refuelling and Compression Station (HRCS) facility to store and dispense hydrogen generated by the electrolyser. The use of a combined HRCS provides the HMGS with greater flexibility, allowing stored hydrogen to be used, if sufficient demand is identified, to dispense high pressure hydrogen for use as a transport fuel.
The Hydrogen refuelling station proposed for installation is suitable for outside installation in all weathers but is not suitable for operation indoors. A standard installation uses a compressor to compress hydrogen gas into cylinders and a dispenser to then further compress the gas into a vehicle. The use of a combined storage and refuelling solution removes the need for a second stage compression system.
One of the main benefits of a combined HRCS and storage system is that stored hydrogen can be easily relocated. This makes it easy to demonstrate the use of hydrogen as a transport fuel at remote locations away from the HMGS as it would only require the transportation of a set of hydrogen storage cylinders.
The refuelling/compression system proposed for this project will meet the following criteria:
- Will include all necessary equipment for the safe compression and storage of hydrogen gas
- Will be capable of storing compressed hydrogen at up to 420 bar
- Be capable of dispensing gas at pressure, up to 350bar.
- Will connect directly to the electrolysers hydrogen output via an integrated 1000L low pressure buffer tank
